Denis Villeneuve: “I Haven’t Read ‘Dune Messiah’ Yet But I’m So Hyped to See All the Crazy Action”

We sat down with “Dune: Part 2” director Denis Villeneuve to get the scoop on how “Dune: Part 3” is coming along!

Dibs Next: First of all, congrats on the success of “Dune: Part 2”! It seems like people are really liking it.

Denis Villeneuve: Thank you! I really think people are craving these big explosive films with giant set-pieces and huge battles.

Dibs Next: With that in mind, how are you feeling about your upcoming “Dune: Part 3” adaptation?

Denis Villeneuve: Well, obviously, we have some terrific source material to work from. I haven’t read “Dune Messiah,” yet, but I’m so hyped to see all the crazy action in that book!

Dibs Next: Are you joking?

Denis Villeneuve: No. Why?

Dibs Next: You haven’t read the next book yet? But you’re already attached to direct?

Denis Villeneuve: Yeah, but I’m sure it’s fuckin dope as hell. I mean the way the last one ended? Where they’re about to like go conquer the galaxy?

Dibs Next: Right. But you’re aware that it starts 12 years later, right? After the jihad is over?

Denis Villeneuve: I… what?

Dibs Next: And it’s mostly people talking about stuff. I mean it’s cool. The talking scenes are cool.

Denis Villeneuve: Fuck. I literally just did a bunch of interviews about how dialogue is for losers. Are you sure there’s no big fight scenes? Someone told me there’s a really cool one with a girl fighting a training robot or something.

Dibs Next: Oh yeah, that scene is dope. She’s only 15, but she fights like 10 robots at once. And she’s completely nude the whole time.

Denis Villeneuve: You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.

Dibs Next: Oh, wait, yeah. That’s not really filmable, huh?

Denis Villeneuve: I MIGHT have to make this an HBO series. I don’t want to do that but I might have to. Shit, I really should have read that book first.

Dibs Next: You gotta read the book!

Denis Villeneuve: Well, whatever. I’ll get through this next movie. And then hopefully things go back to normal after “Dune Messiah” and I can keep making big cool action flicks.

Dibs Next: I haven’t read the other books, but I’m sure they’re normal, Denis.

Denis Villeneuve: Thank god. At least it can’t be worse than working on “Dune: Part 1.” I never wanna work with Jason Mamoa again and I was so happy when I killed off his character for good.
