MONTREAL — “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve is reportedly doing a page-one rewrite of his upcoming film “Dune Messiah” after seeing a tweet which explained that Paul Atreides is actually bad.
“Holy shit, oh fuck, this is bad. I was so sure that Paul was a good guy by the end of ‘Dune Part 2’ but I have a LOT of work to do to fix this. ‘Dune Messiah’ was about to be a huge victory lap for him! The whole movie was basically about how happy everyone is now that he became Muad’Dib,” Villeneuve explained, sweatily Googling “paul atreides dune good or bad reddit” on his phone.
“I just hope I got the rest of this stuff right,” Villeneuve said. “If people don’t think the stuff where Lady Jessica commands people using The Voice is sexy, I might ask Warner Bros. to just Zaslav the whole series.”
The Twitter thread, which was titled “THREAD: why Paul Atreides is lowkey NOT goated (1/X),” was viewed roughly 15 million times, according to engagement metrics that could not be independently verified in any way.
“It’s an interesting argument, but I’m not quite convinced,” said Paul Atreides actor Timothée Chalamet. “If Paul is meant to be seen as a villainous character, then why does he look and sound like me? It just doesn’t add up.”
As of press time, Villeneuve reportedly just realized that when Paul calls Hitler “pretty good” in the Dune Messiah book, he was not being sarcastic.
