NEW YORK — Filmmakers Ethan Coen and Benny Safdie announced today that they are now brothers.
“I’ve long admired Benny’s work and have always wanted to share a brotherly bond with him. It wasn’t something we had planned, but when I realized we were both currently looking for new brothers, it seemed like the perfect time to finally team up,” Coen explained. “We have three new scripts in development — one pilot and two features — as well as an upcoming Hanukkah with our new joint parents.”
Safdie is reportedly excited about the announcement as well.
“I love Josh [Safdie], but it just felt like our time as brothers had come to an impasse,” Safdie said. “I’m really excited to see how Ethan and I work together. I know we’re just in the honeymoon phase, where everything feels so fresh and exciting, but it’s pretty amazing he already gave me six noogies and fifteen dead-arms while writing these new scripts. We just have so much energy!”
“And the characters in these scripts are going to be the most wacky, most Jewish characters of all time,” he added.
Despite the new working relationship, there are currently no plans for Josh Safdie and Joel Coen to work together.
“Two J names? Come on,” Josh Safdie argued. “That can’t be brothers. Shut the fuck up.”
