LOS ANGELES — The creators of the live action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Netflix show explained today that the new edition will not include the Fire Nation as one of the four nations.
“Water. Earth. Air. That’s it,” Katara narrates in the opening of the new Netflix episodes. “Long ago, the three nations lived in harmony. And they still do. But there are natural disasters, too. And those can get pretty out of hand sometimes.”
According to a new interview, the creators of the show felt that the Fire Nation did not fit their vision for the updated series.
“We watched a lot of the episodes of the original cartoon to prepare for this and the Fire Nation just seemed really mean!” explained a writer for the live action “Avatar” series. “There’s a lot of things we want to streamline for this version of the show, and that seemed like an easy thing to cut that no one would really miss. At the end of the day, ‘Avatar’ has always been a show about friendship, family, and CGI elemental powers. 75% of the elements is basically the same as having all four.”
The show will also have some other minor changes, but the creators insist that it’s nothing important.
“I think fans are going to be so excited that someone finally took this little show and made it into something more legitimate — something that isn’t just drawings,” said a Netflix executive. “But obviously, making live action television is expensive. We of course want to honor the legacy of Aang’s flying sky bison Appa, and he appears for a particularly epic scene in the first episode. But after that, in order to save money, he will, of course, go on his own journey off-screen. But he will link up with the main crew for occasional special episodes!”
“It’s kind of like the wolves in ‘Game of Thrones,’” they added. “No one really cared that they weren’t in the show a lot.”
To quell growing concerns, the creators of the live action “Avatar” series did confirm that Uncle Iroh will still be in the show, however he is now a huge piece of shit.
