LOS ANGELES — Netflix announced today that disgraced conductor Lydia Tár will be recording her first ever hour-long comedy special at the upcoming Netflix Is A Joke festival.
“I was ripped away from the world of art by a group of rabid fools. Frankly, I’m happy to be back in the conductor’s seat. Although this time, the instrument is not an orchestra, but the audience itself,” the hilarious Tár explained in an interview with NPR.
“As a conductor, the most important thing I did was track the passage of time. Well as a comedian — and I dare not say comedienne — I believe the skillset transfers perfectly well,” she continued. “My mentor, the great Joe Rogan, once said that timing…. is the most important thing a comic can perfect. The tick-tock of a punchline. I think of myself as an extraordinarily funny person.”
Netflix announced the special, entitled “Mahler’s Fist,” alongside a poster featuring Tár’s mouth covered in duct-tape. The special will humorously cover her time being canceled for allegedly causing the death of her former student, what it’s like being in a lesbian relationship with a German woman, and the differences between American culture and the culture of the Amazonian Shipibo-Conibo tribe.
“I don’t think I get it,” said one Twitter user. “But if she was canceled, then I do think I should support it. Hopefully she’s like a lesbo version of Shane Gillis.”
Tár is an EGOT winner; her conducting credits include the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the reveal party for ‘Monster Hunter Rise.’
